Merijn Oudenampsen (1979, Amsterdam) is socioloog en politicoloog, gespecialiseerd in onderzoek naar politieke ideeën. Hij werkt als docent aan de afdeling politicologie van de UvA. Daarvoor was hij Marie Curie fellow aan de Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), waar hij een Engelstalige monografie schreef over de opkomst van het neoliberalisme in Nederland dat gepland staat om zomer 2026 gepubliceerd te worden door Verso Books.
Voor zijn promotie-onderzoek aan de Universiteit van Tilburg bracht hij de ideeën achter de Fortuyn-revolte in kaart. De Nederlandse vertaling – De conservatieve revolte (Vantilt 2018) – werd door NRC Handelsblad tot de beste boeken van dat jaar gerekend. Een licht herziene versie van het proefschrift werd gepubliceerd door Routledge en ontving in 2021 de Choice Outstanding Academic Titles Award.
Na zijn promotie werkte hij aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam aan het project Market Makers. Hij publiceerde samen met de historicus Bram Mellink het boek Neoliberalisme: Een Nederlandse geschiedenis (Boom Geschiedenis, 2022), dat positief ontvangen werd en inmiddels toe is aan een zesde druk.
Hij heeft gepubliceerd in toonaangevende tijdschriften als Comparative European Politics, Economy and Society, Perspectives on European Politics, Political Studies, Contemporary European History en het Journal of European Public Policy. Hij schrijft een driewekelijkse column voor de Groene Amsterdammer.

Merijn Oudenampsen is a political scientist and sociologist by training, specialized in the interdisciplinary study of political ideas. He presently teaches political science at the University of Amsterdam.
Before that, he was a Marie Curie fellow at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where he worked on an English-language monograph on the Dutch neoliberal turn, due to be published in the summer of 2026 by Verso Books.
He did his PhD at Tilburg University in 2018, researching the political and intellectual debates preceding the rise of right-wing populism in the Netherlands. A revised version of the PhD was published as The Rise of the Dutch New Right (Routledge, 2021). It received the 2021 Choice Outstanding Academic Titles Award.
After his PhD, he worked at the University of Amsterdam on Market Makers, a research project on Dutch neoliberalism funded by a grant from the Dutch Research Council. Together with the historian Bram Mellink he wrote the book Neoliberalisme: Een Nederlandse Geschiedenis, which is now in its 6th printing. He has published in leading journals such as Political Studies, Comparative European Politics, Economy and Society, Perspectives on European Politics, Contemporary European History and the Journal of European Public Policy.
